About Atlantic Furniture
Founded in 1983 as Watercraft, Inc., Atlantic Furniture started as a manufacturer of pine waterbed frames. Since then, the Springfield, Mass.-based company has expanded to Fontana, Calif. The company has moved away from the use of pine and now specializes in imported furniture made of the wood of rubber trees.

Prized as an environmentally friendly wood, rubberwood makes use of trees that have been cut down at the end of their latex-producing life cycle. The trees are removed by hand and replaced with new seedlings. In the past, felled rubber trees were either burned on the spot or used as fuel for locomotive engines, brick firing, or latex curing. Each product in the entire line is finished with a high-build, five-step finishing process. After a thorough sanding, a wipe-on sealer is applied, followed by a tinted sealer to even the grain and color of the wood. Additional sanding prepares the surface for the first base color coat, more sanding, and a second base color coat. After a final sanding, the finish coat is applied. This process produces a beautiful and durable finish that will last for years.

I've been looking for a counter height dinning set for the area in my kitchen that opens into my living room. I wanted something small, so as to not block the flow, as well as something to match the light wood of the cabinets. Not as simple as it would seem; there are plenty of small counter height dinning set out there, but all in darker finishes. Blond wood must be out of vogue right now, I guess, but that is what I'm stuck with. This was the only dinning set I could find in both the right size and right finish. So, I bought it in the Caramel Latte finish. I will say; this color does match very nicely with my kitchen cabinets, and with an antique buffet that I already have in the space. I like the style of the chairs well enough, but the design of the table is not great. The legs are too close together. The table top is 39 inches square, but the legs are tucked in toward the center. By comparison, there is another set available on this site (see Item# CRY119), that is smaller, (32 inches square), and yet has legs set wider apart. I think; I would have preferred this dinning set over the one I bought, if only it was available in a blond finish. The other issue I have is with product quality. The table top was delivered badly damaged. It had a crack running 2/3 the through the middle and 3 corners chipped. One of the chairs also had some minor damage to the finish. However, the boxes the stuff came in showed no sign of any damage or rough handling, and the parts were well packed. So I've got to believe the table and chair were damage before they were ever packed and shipped. Also, there was a problem with the chair legs. The cross members are meant to be screwed in with regular wood screws that are provided, but the pre-drilled holes are too large. So, the screws won't screws in tight, and if you keep screwing too long then you will quickly strip out the holes all together. I got to say, there was an extra set of screws that was added in with the chair packaging, and they had an attach note saying to use them in place the screws originally called for in the instructions. However, the problem with the provided replacement screws was that they are a bit longer, but what were really needed were thicker screws. So, I had to go out and buy some thicker screws to assemble the chairs. The finished assembled chairs (with the thicker screws) are nice enough, but what a pain! I returned the table top for a replacement. I was strongly tempted return the whole set for a refund instead, and just forget the whole thing. But, that would mean I'd still have no kitchen table.

This product is expensive for what you get. The quality of the material is not good at all for a set costing [$]. The table came broken and the finish was very uneven for this price point. Putting everything together was a chore as many times the screws did not fit and longer screws were needed. Overall the product looks much better online than it does in person. Don't waste your money.
