No assembly required. Easy for the 2yr old to climb up to eat breakfast at, but heavy enough so he doesn't move it to get to other areas of the kitchen.

We couldn't be happier with this purchase. Top quality wood, and it came fully assembled in a tough cardboard box that protected the finish during transit. It came much quicker than I anticipated, so that made us very happy. I particularly like the brass protective rail on the front foot rail. I would definitely consider purchasing from the Hayneedle store again.

Looked for a long time and was considering these but hadn't bought them since we couldn't test them out. Had even narrowed down the search to maybe three types, then stumbled across these in a bar at a golf course in Loveland, CO. Seemed very comfortable and sturdy so we're almost sold. Went to try out the other candidates which were a little more modern (and more $). We quickly realized that we felt like we perched on the others. These you can actually sit on. The foot rungs are a little high on these which is good since my wife is only 5'2" and can't reach the rung on some stools. my only complaint (a small one) is that I would've like to find them in oak to match my dining chairs. Other than that they look great and match wll enough. (purchased 3 in the Walnut stain)
