These stools arrived (I purchased 2) with some minor scratches and both have several spots where the finish had been damaged or had worn off.
One of the stools was missing 3 of the 8 needed pre-drilled holes. It was easy enough to remedy with my own drill and other than that, assembly was easy.
It would have been nice if the manufacturer had not used staples to affix all the various tags and straps. It is nearly impossible to remove them without damaging the finish.
Expected a bit more for the price but overall these seem to be fairly nice stools and look great in the kitchen.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

          I bought 5 of these and one was delivered broken. The broken seat showed that it was made of particle board. While assembling those that weren't broken, the nuts attached to the seat stripped easily leaving it impossible to tighten the bolts. I was very disappointed in the quality of these stools for the money.

The manufacturer confirms that the seat for the Guilford stool is absolutely 100% solid hardwood and that this stool is commercially approved through rigorous testing of an accredited testing lab and meets the strength and durability requirements of the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and BIFMA (Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturer's Association). As is customary in furniture manufacturing, a square board of medium density fiberboard is utilized underneath the solid wood seat to attach the swivel to the base and top. If there are any issues with the bar stools upon arrival please contact our Customer Care Center where a representative will be happy to help you.
